Kokedama and kusamono
Kokedama and kusamono – Japanese plant cultivation techniques
Kokedama and kusamono are Japanese plant cultivation techniques in which the form of the arrangement and its presentation play a significant role. In the case of kokedama, the plant is planted in a ball of soil covered with moss, replacing a traditional pot. Kusamono, on the other hand, are miniature plant arrangements created in small containers, often made of grasses, mosses, and small herbaceous plants.
Kokedama and kusamono – my works
The kokedama and kusamono available in the store are ready-to-display plant decorations. Each arrangement varies in size, proportions, and character, as its final appearance depends on the plant species, growth rate, and materials used.
I make most of my coasters and dishes myself in my studio; the rest are selected vintage pieces or pieces made from natural materials like stone or wood. The selection changes constantly and includes only currently available pieces.
Kokedama and kusamono are great for those who want to incorporate plants into their interiors in a light, unobtrusive way. They can be placed on a shelf, table, or windowsill, or, in the case of kokedama, even hung in the air.
This solution is suitable for both apartments and offices or commercial spaces, especially where simplicity and the natural character of the decoration are important.
Care
Kokedama and kusamono care is simple and requires providing adequate light and regular watering. In the case of kokedama, this involves periodically irrigating the ball by submerging it in water. Kusamono is watered depending on the type of plant and the container used.
Fertilization is tailored to the needs of the specific species and introduced gradually as the plants are planted in a nutritious soil mixture prepared by me.
Each composition comes with basic information on how to care for a specific plant.
Kokedama and kusamono as a gift
Finished plant arrangements also make a great gift for those who appreciate plants and natural interior decorations. Each piece is carefully protected for transport. Due to the materials used or the scale, some compositions are only available for personal collection from the studio in Warsaw.
