What is kokedama?

The workshop "Kokedama - Hanging Gardens" is an opportunity to learn the unusual Japanese art of growing plants without the use of a pot. Kokedama (literally "moss ball") originates from the bonsai tradition and involves planting plants in a specially prepared soil mixture and then wrapping them in moss, creating a decorative clump. Such a composition can be set on a stand or hung, creating a so-called hanging garden.
In the form of kokedama will work most of the plants with a small root system - especially effective are species with interesting leaves or hanging stems.
At my workshop you will create up to two kokedama, which you will take home with you.

Who is the kokedama workshop for?

For anyone who wants to try something new, enjoys manual work or dreams of a moment surrounded by greenery and a creative atmosphere. I invite both those who are taking their first steps in the world of plants, and those who already have experience in growing them. During the workshop I will talk not only about the very technique of creating moss balls and how to care for them, but also about the selection of plants and how to refresh the composition after years. For each work you will receive a stand or hook, so that your kokedams are immediately ready for display. This way even those with a lot of plant knowledge will find something new and inspiring.

You will learn how to create kokedama from scratch. First I will share with you the most important theory and tell you about the materials, and then I will show you how to put this knowledge into practice, step by step, creating your own composition.

During the class you will create up to 2 kokedama, and you will receive accessories to display them: handmade concrete holders or hooks. The plant compositions will become a beautiful decoration for your home!

How to prepare for the workshop?

For the kokedama workshop, wear comfortable clothes (you may get a little dirty) and bring a good mood with you. I will take care of the rest 🙂

You will receive everything you need to make 2 plant compositions, and the finished kokedams I will help you properly secure and pack. The whole thing will fit into one bag, which you can comfortably and easily take home.
