What is kusamono?
Kusamono is the art of creating plant arrangements, originating in Japan, and is virtually unknown in Poland. Sometimes it accompanies bonsai (in which case it is called shitakusa), and sometimes serves as a standalone decorative element. It utilizes herbaceous plants, planted in specially selected, small containers using specialized tools and materials. Every detail is important: the arrangement of the plants, the proportions, and the method of display.
Despite its small size, kusamono requires careful composition planning, precision, and patience. During the workshops kusamono you will learn this unique technique and create your own harmonious composition.
Who are the kusamono workshops for?
Kusamono workshops are suitable for both beginners and those with experience working with plants. During the workshop, I will discuss the technique of creating kusamono, its care, plant selection, and ways to display the finished arrangements. This means that even participants with a background in gardening or floristry will gain new skills and inspiration.
This is one of the few plant workshops in Warsaw where you'll learn the Japanese kusamono technique. Preparing such an arrangement is more than just planting—it requires precision, patience, and the right materials. During the workshop, you'll learn how to create miniature arrangements and take home your own unique decoration.

You will learn how to make kusamono from scratch: first I will talk about the history, materials and tools, and then I will show you how to make your own kusamono.
An introduction to plant cultivation and the Japanese art of plant care.
Selection of vessels, preparation of the substrate for kusamono
Planting plants using special tools
Finishing the composition with moss, gravel, and stones. Selecting a base.
Admire the created compositions 😉
During the class, you'll create one large kusamono or several smaller ones in handmade concrete vessels. These plant compositions will become unique and original decorations for your home.
How to prepare for the workshops?
Wear comfortable clothes (it might get a little dirty) and bring a good mood. I'll take care of the rest 🙂
You'll receive everything you need to make two plant compositions, and I'll help you secure and pack the finished kusamono. Everything will fit in one bag, making it convenient and easy to take home.
