Kusamono with Crassula capitella (Crassula capitella) in a handmade concrete pot. I planted the plant about 3-4 years ago and have cared for it ever since, pruning it and adjusting its exposure to the sun.
The small container and the way the plant is grown allow for maintaining the miniature effect – the crassula grows slower and maintains the proportions typical of kusamono for a long time.
In spring and summer, the leaves turn shades of red and orange, especially in good sunlight. In winter, the colors are more muted and green.
The simple, austere form of the concrete organizes the composition and provides a neutral backdrop for the plant. The surface is complemented by pebbles collected from the Soča River in Slovenia – a personal yet functional element that stabilizes the whole.
Despite its small size, this work is a work of art created over time. Its value stems from the plant's several years of growth in this form, the handcrafted vessel, and the regular work with the plant, rather than from a one-time assembly of elements.
PLANT
Crassula capitella (crassula)
a succulent with a compact, partially hanging shape, turning red-orange in good sunlight
MATERIALS AND PERFORMANCE
- a living plant kept in this form for about 3-4 years
- hand-made concrete vessel
- natural pebbles collected on the Soča River
- a nutritious soil mixture prepared by me
DIMENSIONS
- vessel diameter: 9 cm
- total height: 11 cm
- composition width: 14cm
CARE
Kusamono is best placed in a bright spot with good access to sunlight. Crassula capitella tolerates periodic dryness well – watering should be done moderately, after the soil has dried out.
The plant is planted in a nutritious soil mixture, so fertilization is applied sparingly and in accordance with the succulents' needs, especially during the growth period.
PACKING AND SHIPPING
Kusamono is carefully protected for transport in ecological cardboard, with a matching insert to stabilize the plant and the vessel. The packaging is simple, aesthetically pleasing, and suitable for gift-giving.
Shipping is dependent on weather conditions. In extremely cold or hot weather, shipping may be delayed or postponed. In such cases, I will contact the buyer to arrange a safe delivery date.
